Main Event

I built my stack up to $17,000 at the end of the first break. Nothing dramatic. In the second level I hit a full house to double up to $32,000. In the same lap I turn a full house only to lose to a 3 outer bigger full house on the river. Down to $20,000. After dinner break I have $22,900. I played bad at the beginning of the level and bled muself down to $10,000. Then I get k,k. With blinds at $100/$200 with a $25 ante there is an early raise to $1075. I re-raise to $2800. He goes all in, I call. He shows q,q.

Flop comes a queen and I am done. Lost most of my stack to a 3 outer and a two outer.

Done. Too frustrated to type now. I'll go into greater detail in a few days. I am catching a flight home in 6 hours.

I decided to take the morning off and went to the Dam Tour. A good way to kill a couple hours. When I got back I went to the Rio to pick-up my bag of clother from Poker Stars. Prety good:

Duffel Bag
Card Protector (Poker Stars on one side, WSOP 2006 on the other)
Baseball Cards with all of the Poker Stars Professionals
Baseball!?!?! with Poker Stars and WSOP emblems.
2 T-Shirts
1 Lettermans Jacket
2 Hats
1 Basketball Jersey
1 Hockey Jersey
1 Baseball Jersey
1 Soccer Jersey (best of the bunch)

All of it was decent quality. Probably worth around $700 or so.

My first poker of the days was going ot be the $60 tourney @ the Flamingo. It was full when I got there. I stuck $20 into a slot machine while I was there and hit a $200 win. I cashed out up $160.

I then played in the $60 tournament @ Aladdin. I am up to $6000 with 3 tables left. Chip leader @ my table is bullying ahnd showing junk. I get j,j from the bb. Chip leader raises 3x the bb for $1800. I push for all mu $6k. He thinks for a minute and calls with 9,9. Flop comes a 9, turn a 9 (just to rub it in) and I am done. This was actually good news.

It was still early and I decided to play Pai Gow. I hit a Royal Flush for $750.

Up for the day because of Pai Gow and Slots. Who knew!

I played in the 1pm Mega Super at the Series. I bluffed at the wrong pot in the second level to someone who had the full house which took half my stack. After the break I am down to $1000. I call with k,q with the intention of raising all-in if I can. The chip leader at the table raises and I push. He shows 8,8. I flop a king and double-up. After that hand the next 3 hands I get are k,k a,k and a,k. I win all three uncontested to a standard raise.

Then the death hand. I get a,q and raise to $600 (I have $2500 left or so). A short stack goes all-in for $900. The chip leader at the table pushes all-in. Smells like an overbet to get heads-up. I call. Short stack has 4,4 and other has 10,10. Flop comes j,10,x. He flops a set but I have 4 kings in the deck to win. I don't hit and I am done.

I tried 2 satellites to the Bellagio Tournament and missed both times. I lost $100 in $1/$2 NL at the Venetian.

On a good note for the night I hit 4 aces on a video poker machine for $100. and I won about $80 on the slots.

I played in the $1500 NL World Series Event. It was a short day. On the 5th hand of the day something interesting happened. I get 10,8 from the small blind. There are 3 limpers to me. I check and the bb checks. Flop comes q,10,8 rainbow. I bet out $200 and get 1 caller. The turn is the 8 for a full house. I check, other bets $250 and I call. The river is a 9 giving straight possibilities. I bet $250 and the other player takes a $500 chip and throws it in. After it hits the felt he says raise. Too fuckin late, damn it! If you throw an overvalued chip on the table withoutsaying raise it is considered a call. I said "I wish it was a raise" and showed my boat. He tabled k,j for the straight. That hand would have doubled me up.

I am at $1800 in the second level. I get k,q of diamonds and I limp and along with 3 others. Flop comes q,x,x with one diamond. I bet $250 and my opponend calls. Turn comes another rag diamond. I bet $400 and ther other player goes all in (he has me covered). I have top pair and a second nut flush draw. This is a decent chance to double up. Even if I am behind (which I didnt think I was) I could still draw out. I called hand he showed 10,4 of diamonds. I don't draw out and I am done in 80 minutes.

I went over to the Bellagio after that and played in a single table satellite for the $1k Bellagio Cup tournament. I won a seat and played @ 7pm. I have decent stack in level 4. I get 10,10 and raise 3x the bb pre-flop and get 1 caller. Flop comes 10 high rainbow for a flopped set. I bet 2/5ths of the pot. Other player pushes all-in. I immediately call. He tables a,a. One other playes says he mucked an ace. Turn is a blank and the river is the case ace. I'm done to a 1 outer. Nothing like being a 98% favorite and losing.

I started with a $60 tournament at Paris in the morning. I busted out in the second level. I then went over to Bellagio to try and satellite in to the daily $1k Bellagio Cup tournament. $240 single table satellite with 2 seats given away. We were down to 3 handed when i had someone dead to 3 outs on the river. He hit and it left me crippled and I was done.

I played the $130 daily at Caesars @ noon. I was knocked out about three hours in.

THen I played in the 7:00 $60 tourney at Aladdin. Here are my hands I received in the first lap. 8,8 a,6s a,q k,qs a,k k,qs a,k. I was done one and a half laps in.

I then tried a 1 table $225 satellite at ther Rio. I busted out in 6th. I won a $40 last longer with one other player to make the loos $185.

Other than poker it was an odd day. I won $125 playing Carribian Stud and $140 playing craps and $90 playing Video Poker. I ended up down about $200 on the day.

I only played one thing today, the $1500 Razz event. The short version is that I busted out @ 3:30 am in Level 11 in 60th place. The top 40 made the money.

The first table I was on had Tom McEvoy and Dr. Jerry Buss (Lakers Owner). I knocked out McEvoy in the 3rd level. Jerry Buss was eliminated about 10 minutes before dinner break in Level 6. Dutch Boyd took over Jerry's seat 2 hands before dinner break. Dutch was knocked out in Level 7 right after dinner. Paul Darden was moved to our table for about 20 minutes before our table broke.

In level 8 I was a short stack for the rest of the way. I survived all-ins 5 times before I lost in the 11th round only 20 spots out of the money. In the last table I was on Vince Burgio was there (Card Player Author).

That's about it. It's 4am. Time to get some sleep. I am totally drained. Tomorrow may be a day off from poker, at least until at night.

Not too much play for me today. I kinda got a feel for what pros have to do.

At 11am this morning I had an interview with the Tampa Tribune. They are going to do a piece on the average player in the World Series. It shoud run late next week right before the main event starts.

I then played in the $60 event at Imperial Palace. Did absoltely nothing and was out in 20 minutes when my a,k was up against q,q and I didn't catch-up.

I then had a photo shoot at the Rio for a picture for the newspaper article. Boooooring.

Then had time for one Razz single table satellite. We chopped it 3 ways.

Winning day overall.

For Razz tomorrow I am at Table 25, Seat 7. Check the following link for updates:

I got a late start today from being out till 2am the night before. I played in the Noon tournament @ The Orleans. Buy-in was $80. You got $2500 in chips with 20 minute levels. This has been the best small but-in tournament I have seen in Vegas yet. I ended up in 21st out of 100.

I then went over to The Aladdin and played in a $1/$2 NL cash game. I won about $208 in about an hour and a half.

I then went over to the Rio. I played in two $125 single table satellites. With the deal cutting and tipping the dealer I invested a total of $345 and I chopped both of 'em. The chips I won are worth a total of $1000 for a $665 profit.

A good day all in all.

I played in a tournament at MGM Grand in the morning. 100 people and I busted out at the end of the first hour. I won the very first hand of the tournament and that was about it.

I also played in the Mega Super and finished 13th out of 41. Good for nothing.

In the $2/$5 NL cash games I won a total of $200.

I woke up early and headed over to the Rio to play in a $175 single table satellite (with $20 last longer) before the tourney started. Since they had to clear the tables by 11:00 it was played with 10 minute levels. I was caught on a bluff and lost most of my stack. I ended up bucking in 7th.

Now on to the $1500 tourney.

The first big hand I played was about 20 minutes in. I get 6,3 from the big blind with 5 limpers to me. I check my option. I cant remember the flop off hand but I was open ended. I bettor and I call and one other calls. I hit the straight on the turn and make a 3/4 pot bet and get one caller. The river places a straight on the board of 8,7,6,5,4. I am counterfitted. Other player bets 250 and I call. He has 9,10.

Next hand was in level 1. I get 7,7. There is one raiser to $75 and 2 of us call. Flop comes 9,7,6. Original raiser bets and I call. Turn is a queen. He bets and I raise and he calls. River is a 2 he checks and I bet and he reluctantly calls. He flips over 8,8 and I take the pot.

I then went on vacation for about 1 hour with no cards till I get q,q on the button. It is folded to me and I bet $150 and the bb calls. The flop comes q,3,2. Its checked to me and I make a continuation bet of $150 and the other players fold. Damn.

At the break I have around $2000. In level three I make a couple of bluffs to keep my stack until the following hand occurs.

I get a,k in middle position and raise to $325. I get one caller. Flop comes 10 high all spades (I have the ace of spades). I bet out $350. The other player pushes all-in. At worst I figured I had 14 outs twice (9 spades, 3 aces, 2 non-spade kings) which sould make me the favorite. The other players stack represented about 80% of my stack. I called and he showed Qs, Js. I didn't hit and was crippled. In the same lap I double through the same player on a coin flip to get up to $900. As we switch to level 4 I am down to about 600. I go all in with a flush draw, middle pair and a gutshot straight draw. I get called by the same guy again. He has a better flush draw with two overcards. He hits on the river and I am done. When I was knocked out there was about 100 tables left, middle of the pack.

I played well but was unfortunate to run up against bigger hands.

I played one more $125 satellite and took 3rd, AGAIN.

In $2/$5 NL cash games I won $230. Time to switch to cash games.

Finally a winning day!!!!!!

I started out at the Aladdin in the morning and played the $50 tournament. 45 people and it payed top 6. I pleyed really well and built up a decent stack. As usual when I am a big stack I let 2-3 people double through me. I went card dead with 2 tables to go and went all in as a favorite with a,j. Other player had k,6 and flopped a k. Done in 12th.

I then went to the Imperial Palace and played in their $55 tourney. There was one optional rebuy/add-on for $25. I used it as an add-on. 40 players and it paid top 6. Built another stack when I flopped top pair, with the nut flush draw. The turn brought the flush and someone went all in. He had the straight and I built my stack early. I of course let 2 people double through me with around 25 players left. I am short stacked when we are down to 12. I push with a,9. I get a call from k,10. I win the coin flip and double up. Blinds are so big right now (1000/2000). I get a,10 in the next hand and push with no callers. Next hand I get q,q and push and get no callers. I went from 2000 t0 10,000 in 3 hands. We get to the final table and I draw the small blind. the cloch was stopped with 10 seconds to go in the level so I get one small blind for 1,000. It was a crap shoot at the final table. 4 players drop fast and we are in the money.

Down to 5 people I post the big blind and am all-in for 1,000. The small blind is in for 1,000 and well and a bigger stack called. I have 7,3. Just like the final hand of the '05 Main Event. The flop comes 4,5,6. I survive a few more hands and bust out in 4th for $187. Profit of $107.

I then go to the Rio and play in a $125 single table satellite. Down to 3 people i bust with top pair vs 2 pair on the flop.

Then went and played $2/$5 NL. Buy-in for $200. After a lap I get a,a. There is a $10 straddle, 2 limpers. I raise to $30 and get 3 callers. Flop j,6,4. I bet $60, 1 caller. Turn is another j. Both check. River is a 2. Other guy bets $75. I make a crying call and ask if he has a j. He says no, I flip over aces and he mucks. I stay for about 5 more laps and leave with $375, up $175.

Watch for me in the $1500 event tomorrow. Live updates at www.cardplayer.com

I played in a small 18 player $40 tournament at Paris. I was co-leader in chips entering the final table. One persone doubled through me. Then when I had Q,Q someone had K,K and took a number of chips off of me. Down to 6 people I was a shorter stack after another doubles through me i push with a,8. I get called by k,q and lose the coin flip and am done in 6th. Another final table, another non-cash.

Then it's Rio time again. I played in a $2/$5 Nl game. I buy-in for $200, have it down to $35 in 1/2 hour. Come back to $215 then lose when I hit a straight on the turn to someones flush. Hard to put him on the flush shince he raised pre flop.

I then played a $175 satellite and bust out in 9th during the second level.

I think I have my schedule set for the rest of the series.

I went ahead and bought into the $1500 NL tournament on Tuesday, 7/18. I am at Table 146, Seat 6 if you are looking for updates on Card Player. They will mention the Table # if it is a tough table.

I will also buy into the $1500 Razz event on Saturday, 7/22 later in the week.

My Main Event starts Monday, July 31st. I am on Table 123, Seat 3.

It's going to be mainly small buy-in tournaments tomorrow for me, all under $100. Hopefully more final tables, with some cashes this time.

More unfortunate shit continues to happen............

Played in a 9:30am $60 tourney at Paris, didn't cash.

I also played 3 $125 satellites and 1 $175 satellite. Two 3rd place finishes for absolutely nothing. In one of the satellites down to 3 handed there was one dud who had absolutely now idea how to play. Starting 3 handed he had $65oo. Me and the other guy had the remaining $3500. Me and the other guy dominated him and got him down to $1200. I pushed him all in when the blinds were $200/$400 and he won a coin flip. He then one another, and another to knock me out in 3rd.

I also played in the $1k super satellite. With 2 tables left (top 4 getting seats, or $10k) one guy was in for his last $1200. I have $10k and call with a,10 suited. He has k,k. I flop a flush draw, turn a gutshot, but dont hit. In that same lap I make a standard raise again with a,10 siuted. Same guy pushes. I fold as he shows me q,q. I raise again with 6,6. Same guy pushes all-in AGAIN. I take a few minutes and decide to fold. He shows k,j (should have played that one, maybe). That takes me down to $6k. I make it to the final table in 8th chip position. 1-4 get seats and 5-8 get cash. The two short stacks double up once. I push with a,8 and get called by k,10. K hits and I am out in 10th, nothing to show.

After that I play a $2/$5 NL live game and buy in for $200. I cashed out for $408 in 1/2 hour before the table breaks, made me feel a little better.

Got into Vegas today. First Stop, Paris:

$1/$2 NL Ring - Bought in for $150 and cashed in for $178. I played for about 1 1/2 hours. I won 4 pots and had to bluff to win 3 of them. People at the table were very easy to read.

I also played in the Super Satellite at the Orleans. Buy in was $60 with unlimited $40 rebuys. I didn't have to rebut at all and did the add-on at the end of the rebuy period. Total invested $100. There were 18 players and they gave away 2 seats. I ended up finishing 6th. I played really good but nothing to show for it.

I then played 2 $125 and 1 $175 satellite at the Rio with nothing to show for it. One 4th plavce finish, that's it. I also lost $40 in last longer bets.

Then I donked off $300 in a $2/$5 NL game. I have a 15 outer after the flop which made me the favorite when all the money went in. Of sourse I didn't hit and lost the whole buy-in.

Played in the Poker Stars $10 Multi Deep Stack tourney with $5,000 starting chips. I busted out in 675th out of 1098 about and hour and 45 minutes in.

Then played some $0.25/$0.50 NL live game at Doyle's for about an hour. Started with $25 and left with $27.20.

Then the big one of the day I played in the Winners Choice satellite at Full Tilt. 56 people and 6 advanced to the tourney. I ended up making the 6 and have my ticket into the $200 +$16 event on Tuesday at 9:00pm et. One out of every 60 will get an entry into a WSOPC or WPT event of their choice. Should be fun.

Recent Happenings

12/30 - Played in a $40 multi at the horse track. About half of the peopel were done. I had 7x the bb and wa in the bb with a,10. UTG (woman with quite a few chips) calls. Folds around to me and I push to win the blinds and antes. She calls with K,3. I hit a 10 and she hit a 3 on the flop. She spikes the K on the river and I am done. She was probably chip leader after that. Good thing is she was out 1/2 hour later with no winnings. Idiot.

I then played a $45 SNG and bubbled in 3rd (pays top 2).

12/30 - Went to the Hard Rock that night to play in some 1 table SNG's. The $100 ones are paid out $450,$300,$200. I took a 3rd and a first for a nice $370 profit after tips.

1/3 - Played a $10 SNG at stars and won it - 2 for 2 since reading Harrington.

1/7 - Plaued $0.25/$0.50 NL ring at Doyles. I bought in for $25 and had it to $30 20 minutes in then...
I get A,A in late position. I raise to $1.50 with 2 callers. Flop comes j,8,3. Checked to me and I bet $3, fold and then the early position raised to $6. I go all in and he shows 8,8 for a set. No help on the turn or river and I am down $25.

Then played in a $2 multi at Doyles. I ended up taking 2nd out of 396 for $134.64. I had the 2/1 chip lead and lost it. I had only one suckout the whole tourney when my k,q beat a,k when a q flopped.

40 minutes into that one I played a $5 multi at Poker Stars. I built my stack to $9,500 and went card dead for an hour which is fine due to the 15 min levels there. I ended up busting out in 162nd out of 1,816 and won $11.80.

Current online bankroll - $1,171.66
